[Class 100 (iv)] In a typewriter having end thrust type bars, and weights associated with the bars and operating through toggles to complete the stroke of the type blocks or heads by momentum, each toggle has a fixed pivot and an arm thereof which is foldable. The upper and lower type bars 10, 11 respectively are hinged at the rear at 15 tb arms 16 pivoted at 17, and are also supported near the front by pivoted arms 20, 23 respectively. Depression of the keys operate push-rods 25, bell-crank levers 26 pivoted at 27, and cam levers 29 pivoted at 30, whereby cam faces 33 roll on faces 34 on the arms 16 to swing the type-bars forward against the action of springs 18. The forward movement of each type-bar is completed by the momentum of a swinging weight 35 which straightens toggle arms 36, 38. Each weight 35 is connected to the short arm 36 pivoted at 15 to the associated type-bar, and at 37 to the arm 39 which comprises two pivoted foldable arms, 38a, 38b. The arm 38b is pivoted on a fixed pivot 39 on an eccentric 49 which can be adjusted. The movement of the type-bars consequent on the depression of the keys straightens the arms 38a, 38b until the stops 42 thereon meet, and further forward movement is effected due to the arm 36 of the weight 35 swinging more into alignment with the arm 38a against the action of a spring 43 which extends between a lug on the weight and a point in the arm 38a. An arcuate guide comb 48 guides the front arms 20, 23, and a comb 31 guides each cam lever 29. The front arms 20, 23 are connected to the escapementmechanism.
