[Class 38 (v)] A contact 35 is moved selectively by hand over a series of contacts 64 and is then actuated electromagnetically into engagement with the selected contact, the contact-carrying rod 26 entering one of a series of locating holes 61b. In the form shown, there is an arcuate series of fixed contacts 64 and a common arcuate contact 62 and the bridging contact 35 is rotated over. these contacts by actuation of a knob 49 fixed to a sleeve 48 connected with lost motion to a plate 28 carrying the rod 26 which carries the contact 35. When the knob 49 is first turned, a striker 51 fixed to the sleeve 48 separates two co-operating contact springs 42 between which it lies, the contact springs being in the circuit of the electromagnet 15 so that this cannot be operated while the knob 49 is being turned. When the selected position is reached, this being determined by a ball 20 and a co-operating series of holes 19b, release of the knob 49 allows the contact springs to engage each other and prepare the circuit of the magnet 15. This circuit is then completed by rotation of a knob 53 which moves a rivet contact 57 into engagement with a contact 58. The magnet 15 then attracts its armature 24 which pulls down the rod 26 so that the contact 35 connects the selected contact 64 to the arcuate contact 62 and the rod 26 enters a locating hole 61b. An indicating lamp 59 is energized by a secondary winding energized by the primary winding 15.
