Abstract
583,546. Centreless grinders. CINCINNATI MILLING MACHINE CO. July 14, 1944, No. 13509. Convention date, July 28, 1943. [Class 60] A centreless grinding machine has the regulating wheel and work rest carried on a common support which is mounted so that adjustments relative to a plane connecting the centres of the grinding and regulating wheels can be effected without destroying the relationship between the work and regulating wheels. The regulating wheel 12, Fig. 3, is carried by an upper slide 18 adjustable on a slide 17 on which the work rest 15 is mounted ; the slide 17 is supported by a cradle 21, Fig. 5, mounted on arcuate surfaces 24, 25 on a saddle 26 on which it is guided by wedge-shaped blocks 27, 28 by which the cradle can be clamped to the saddle. The cradle is adjusted by means of a pivoted nut 35 thereon engaging a screw 39 operated through bevel gearing from the face of the machine. The slides are adjusted by a handoperated screw 54 engaging a nut 34<1> in the transmission housing 55 on the slide 18 ; for short adjustments the nut, which is axially fixed, may be rotated by a lever 59 with a handle extending to the operator's position. The lower slide 17 may be adjusted by the same mechanism by providing a bar 61 passing through a bore 64<1> formed in a part of the slide 17 and secured thereto by a key 65 engaging an annular groove 66, the bar being adapted to be clamped at one end to an apron 63 on the cradle, and at the other to be clampedb y a member 68 depending from the slide 18. The regulating wheel is mounted in a housing 75 angularly adjustable about a bolt 76. The rest blade 15 is vertically adjustable by a rod 102 operated by a crank arm 105 adjusted by a bolt 106. For adjusting the regulating wheel axially, the saddle is mounted on flat ways and adjusted by screws 86; the saddle is clamped to the bed by bolts tightened by tapered rods actuated by screwed members.
