Abstract
583,304. Electromagnetic switches. STONE & CO., Ltd., J., and COX, H. J. W. March 21, 1945, No. 7117. [Class 38 (v)] The plate-like armature of a contactor is pivoted intermediate of its length but outside the magnetic path and operates with two airgaps in series. Front and back moving contacts 10, 11 are mounted on a frame 7 rigidly secured at 6 to the armature 5 in the manner described in Specification 424,127. The armature 5, pivoted at 29, forms a part of the magnetic system including the core 2 of an electromagnet 1, a yoke 3 and yoke extension 33. The pivot-pin 29 and its hinge-plate 36 are preferably non-magnetic, and non-magnetic shims 5<1>, 33<1> are located in air-gaps 30, 31. The armature is balanced mechanically, rendering it shock and vibration-proof. Stationary contacts 12, 13 and other parts of the switch not directly supported by the yoke 3 are mounted on side frame members 16 secured to the yoke, enabling the switch to be mounted as a unit, for instance, on a panel 21 carrying terminals 23.
