Abstract
581,332. Retractive switches; mechanical switches without quick action. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. July 20, 1943, No. 11773. Convention date, July 21, 1942. [Class 38 (v)] A switch for use in connection with the starting of electric discharge lamps has a pivoted operating member 13 which can assume three operative positions. If the handle 14 be in extreme left position, the switch is off, If in a mid-position, as shown, a shorting member 22 carried by the part 13 connects two lateral spring contacts, one, 20, being shown, while insulating projections 33, borne on by spring contacts 32, localize the operating member until the handle 14 is pressed over to the right when the spring 32 is pressed so that contacts 34 are made as long as the handle is held, the first pair of contacts 20 being still connected by the member 22. On release contacts 34 open. For starting discharge lamps, contacts 20 are in the direct circuit from a current source while contacts 34 connect the filaments of a lamp in series for preliminary heating.
