Abstract

579,719. Nails. BRITISH UNITED SHOE MACHINERY CO., Ltd., and CLARKE, T. B. July 29, 1943, No. 28008/45. Divided out of 579,680, [Group VII]. [Class 89 (ii)] Nails, suitable for feeding by automatic means to machines for inserting them in work such as the heel seats of shoes, are made headless and of cylindrical shape bifurcated at each end at 17 so that it is immaterial which end of the nail is inserted into the heel seat. In driving the bifurcations at the leading end of the nail are spread by contact with a metal plate on the last whilst the bifurcations at the other end are closed in by the driving-tool to form a point on to which the heel is subsequently driven. The shank has a lightly-impressed helical formation and the surface is roughened as by etching with acid.
