Abstract
509,312. Nails. BRITISH UNITED SHOE MACHINERY CO., Ltd., and COOPER, B. P. Jan. 13, 1938, No. 1136. [Class 89 (ii)] A cutlan bill or like nail comprises a flattopped head 1 of rectangular cross-section, and a shank which is of rectangular cross-section with two sides substantially longer than the other two sides, the two longer sides being formed with a plurality of laterally extending buttress grooves 21, and all four sides tapering as at 11 to form a point. The grooves 21 are formed on a portion 19 of the shank which is about the same length as, but of greater average cross-sectional area than, an ungrooved portion 17. The latter may be formed on its longer sides with laterally extending ridges 27 of arcuate contour which may be parallel with each other or in the form of a registered trade mark, The nail may be driven by a machine into a hole previously pierced in the workpiece by an awl which is of about the same length as, but of slightly smaller cross-sectional area than, the portion 17 of the shank. Specifications 13463/88, 1494/93, 4954/96, [all in Class 89], 272,143, [Class 89 (ii)], and 414,731, [Group VII], are referred to.
