Abstract
578,999. Cooling. CONSTANT SPEED AIRSCREWS, Ltd., BURTON, P., and MARSHALL, F. G. April 9, 1943, No. 5703. [Class 7 (ii)] [Also in Group XXXIII] In an aircraft engine of the type in which the exhaust pipes m extend towards the rear of the engine fans for cooling air driven by the engine are enclosed within or form part of a spinner open at its forward end. The fans may comprise helical blades f, f' mounted within the spinners e, e<1> of contrawise rotating airscrews b, c. The air passages n have openings o adjacent the cylinders, and their exits are arranged adjacent those of the exhaust pipes. Outlets from the engine cowling are controlled by louvres l. The propelling effect of the gases may be augmented by the provision of venturi outlets. Specifications 535,729, [Group XXXIII], and 560,065 are referred to.
