Abstract
578,488. Feeding sheets. BRITISH TABULATING MACHINE CO., Ltd. April 5, 1944, No. 6399. Convention date, April 9, 1943. [Class 100 (i)] [Also in Group XIX] A record card controlled machine having feed rolls for feeding cards one by one to a mechanism with which the cards are to be in register, comprises means for shifting the feed rolls transversely of the direction of feed to bring each card into the path in which it is in register with the mechanism, and means operable by the card to stop the shifting means when it is in register. A cam 35, driven from the feed rolls 19, lifts a follower 36, together with a slide 22 which carries a cam block 26 having an inclined cam groove 26a (Fig. 8) in which rides a roller 27 (not shown) secured to the feed roller shaft. Thus, as the slide 22 descends, it moves feed rollers 19 transversely, effecting a small lateral movement of the card. When the card 13 (Fig. 5) reaches the imaginary datum line B, it engages a lever 49, closing contacts PC and energizing an electromagnet SCM (Fig. 1) which pulls a spring-held pawl 39 into engagement with a rack 43 secured to the slide 22, thus arresting the downward movement and so preventing any further lateral movement of the card. A second contact SC (Fig. 5) closes to energize the magnet SCM in case of failure of contact PC. The invention is described as applied to the reproducing punch of Specification 442,534, [Group VIII].
