Abstract
An electrically insulating composition comprises a mineral oil, polyethylene (5 to 30 per cent by weight of the total) and a rubbery hydrocarbon polymer soluble in the mineral oil, e.g. rubber, polyisobutylene, polybutadiene and copolymers of butadiene and styrene. The example describes a composition comprising polyethylene, polyisobutylene (molecular weight 35,000) and a naphthene base oil. The ingredients are mixed in absence of air at 130 DEG C. Solidification occurs on cooling. The composition may be used for filling cable joints, sealing ends and terminations or for sealing small transformers.
