Abstract
Apparatus for applying liquid to a travelling yarn or thread, e.g. artificial silk during manufacture, comprises a channel in which coating liquid flows in contact with the yarn, formed by members 13, 14, Fig. 2, removably held in an open trough 1 by means of projecting parts 19, 20, 26 on the channel-forming members engaging parts 32, 33, and 28 on the trough. The upper member 13 can be removed by lifting it until the slot 21 in the projecting part 20 is free of the tongue 22, swinging the lower end away from the trough and removing downwardly. The lower member 14 need then only be lifted to free the slot 27 in the part 26 from the tongue 28. The trough is formed with liquid supply means 33 fed by a pipe 8, liquid discharge means 29, and with a lug 34 and pin member 31 adapted to engage a ridge 38, Fig. 6, and a slot or socket in the upper wall <PICT:0574981/IV/1> <PICT:0574981/IV/2> of a liquid discharge trough 11, both mounted on a standard 7 forming part of a rayon spinning machine. The yarn passes from a lower godet 3 and guide 5, through a narrow slot 37, Fig. 2, in the liquid discharge member 29 and upwards along the channel down which flows the treating liquid supplied by a pipe 10, Fig. 6, flexible connection 9, and pipe 8 to the head of the trough. From the channel, the yarn passes to godet 4 and guide 6. The channel - forming members are formed at intervals with transverse ridges 17, 18, Fig. 2, to guide and support the travelling yarn.
