Abstract
574,236. Wire ropes. WATTS, A. B.' and BRITISH ROPES, Ltd. Jan. 19, 1944, No. 1045. [Class 109] [Also in Group XXX] Wire ropes 1 are provided at points in their length where permanent bends are maintained with a reinforcement comprising a metal sleeve 2 secured throughout its length to the rope by a drawing, pressing or s waging operation. The part of a wire rope sling to be engaged by a crane, hook or the like is provided with a sleeve 2, and the two ends 3 of the rope are spliced together and whipped. The sleeve 2 is rotary sw aged or otherwise secured to the rope and is thereafter bent to the required curvature. In forming an eye 6, a sleeve 5 may be secured to the rope and bent to shape, and a second sleeve 7 may be slid over the two adjacent portions of the rope and secured to the rope portions by swaging and welded to the first sleeve.
