[Class 35] The excitation of a metadyne which may act as the exciter of a main machine comprises components depending on desired variable quantities, the effect of which is determined by one or more impedances having non-linear current-voltage characteristics. In the form shown, the excitation of windings 10 and 12 of the metadyne 1 varies with the current and voltage respectively of main motor 2, the winding 10 being connected across motor interpole winding 14, and non-linear impedances 15, 18 are connected in their circuits and these windings are assisted or opposed by winding 13, the excitation of which varies With rate of change of motor current. The component produced by section 11 energized by tachometer generator 17 becomes effective as the motor reaches the limiting speed and assists sections 10, 12. Specification 568,155 is referred to.
