[A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, Aug. 11, 1943.] [Class 108 (ii)] In a hand-propelled vehicle, such as a baby carriage or invalid's chair, arms 17, 18, Fig. 1, of unequal length depending from the front and rear wheel axles or journals 15, 16 are pivotally connected by a rod or rods 19 upwardly inclined from the rear to the front axle, the arrangement being such that when the front wheels meet an obstruction, such as a curb 24, and the vehicle is still pushed forwardly, the pushing force is transformed into a pulling and lifting force by movement of the arms into the positions shown in broken lines. Figs. 3, 4 show a baby carriage in which the body 25 is hung on springs 35 rigidly secured to housings for bearings through which pass the axles 29, 31, the wheels being mounted on the cranked ends of the axles. The handle 40 may be mounted on the body or connected with the springs 35 or axle 31. In a modification, each axle consists of a central tubular part fixed to the springs 35 and separate, cranked, wheelcarrying end parts rotatably mounted in the fixed part, so that each wheel is independently mounted. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also (1) a modified form of the construction shown in Fig. 1 in which the arm 18 is dispensed with and the rod 19 pivotally connected to the axle 16; and (2) a construction in which each wheel is mounted on the outer ring of a ball &c. bearing, the inner ring being fixed to the end of the axle. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
