Abstract

573,441. Connecting-rod bearings. MEADOWS, Ltd., H., HAMILL, W. W., and CRUMP, R. S. Dec. 1, 1943, Nos. 20031/43 and 14988/44. [Class 12 (i)] [Also in Group XXII] A connecting-rod cap, Fig. 1, is secured by a bolt 2 having a self-aligning nut 1 with curved periphery 3 engaging the curved surface of a nut-accommodating hole 4 which may lie on the centre line of the rod 5 and be used as a locating hole in machining operations. The division plane of the cap and rod makes an angle, e.g. 20 degrees, with the longitudinal axis of the rod so that when the big end is moved near to the door 11, the bolts are nearly horizontal and can be removed. In a modification, Fig. 5, the bolts 15 converge to the rod axis, away from the small end, a separate locating hole 14 being provided. The,cap and rod may have a curved spigot engagement 18, whilst the division planes may be at right angles to the bolts and spheroidal or conoidal.
