Abstract

576,258. Locking nuts. LIDDELL, C. BÀ May t, 1944, No. 8405. [Class 89 (i)] Relates to lock nuts of the type in which a slotted conical projection on one nut 12 engages a countersink in another 11 or in the work or a washer and consists in making the conical angle of the projection a few degrees less than that of the countersink. The slots preferably extend beyond the conical portion. Both the front and rear parts of the slotted portion may have annular recesses to increase the flexibility and the two nuts may be retained in an assembly by closing a lip on one nut into an annular groove on the other. The slots may be filled with grease or other moisture excluding compound. The application to a pipe union is illustrated.
