573,299. Vehicle wheels. BUDD WHEEL CO. July 24, 1944, No. 14095. Convention date, Sept. 21, 1943. [Classes 103 (i) and 144 (i)] To provide increased side braking surfaces 14, the rim 13 of a railway wheel is formed, at one or both sides, with an extension 15 extending radially inwards from the main portion of the rim. In the construction shown, a groove 16 is provided between the extension 15 and the wheel-body 12 from which cooling-air is circulated, through inclined passages 18, to the braking-surfaces 14. Fins 17 formed on the wheel-body serve also as braces for the rimextensions 15.
