Abstract

573,230. Blasting fuzes. DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO., E. I., ENGLISH, M. H., and NYDEGGER, R. R. Nov. 5, 1943, No. 18376. [Class 9 (i)] An electric blasting initiator having a pair of leg wires 3 spaced apart within a plug 2 of resilient material moulded or vulcanised about the wires and crimped in the mouth of the changed shell 1 of the initiator, has the wires provided with a uniform layer of insulation comprising a polymeric organic material, e.g. polyhexamethylene, adipamide or polyhexamethylene sebacamide, extending externally of the plug and over at least a part of the length of the wires within the plug. The plug may be of natural or synthetic rubber composition and the insulation on the leg wires has a melting or softening point above the temperature at which the curing or vulcanising of the plug material takes place. The insulation of the leg wires preferably terminates within the plug, so that the plug is moulded &c. around both the bare and insulated parts of the wires to form a water impervious junction between plug and insulation.
