Abstract
573,168. Valve amplifying circuits. FERRANTI, Ltd., and TAYLOR, M. K. Dec. 2,1943, No. 20138. [Class 40 (v)] In order to improve the quality of sound reproduction from signals received on a limited frequency band, second harmonics of the upper frequencies of the received band are produced and added to the received signals. As shown, the received signals are amplified in the resistance-capacity coupled valve stages 2, 29. Part of the output from the stage 2 is passed to a frequency-doubling pair of rectifiers 10, 12 through a T -section filter F<1> and transformer 6. The filter F<1> passes only the upper frequencies of the received band and the diodes are arranged to give a square-law output so that only second harmonics are produced across the load resistance 15. These pass through an amplifier 16 to a second T -section filter F<11> which removes all frequencies below the upper limit of the received band. The second harmonics remaining are fed into the grid circuit of the second amplifier stage 29. The diodes 10, 12 may be in one envelope with the triode 16, or with a pentode substituted therefor.
