Abstract

572,277. Stuffing-box substitutes. WILKINSON, F. C. W., and CRANE PACKING, Ltd. Dec. 24, 1943, No. 21638. [Class 122 (v)] In a shaft &c. sealing device of the kind comprising a yieldable bellows member 1 having an end flange 2 engaging a bearing ring 5 urged against a cooperating sealing surface, rigid rings 4 support the bellows internally and externally against collapse and distension. The bearing ring may be pressed axially by springs 13 supported on rods 16 extending from a fixed member 7 into recesses 5a in the bearing ring. The collar 7 is secured on the shaft 6 by means of a split ring 8 and a wedging ring 9. Specification 572,278. is referred to.
