Abstract

572,204. Feeding plastics to extruder &c. machines. BRIDGE & CO., Ltd., D., and BROWN, J. July 6, 1943, No. 10960. [Class 78 (i)] [Also in Group V] Apparatus for preparing ptastics for delivery to extruder or shaping machines comprises a hopper a to which the plasticisable material is fed in pulverulent or comminuted form so as to be capable of running freely, the hopper being connected through a valve a with a lower vessel b under suction to extract the air surrounding the descending particles, the air-free particles being compacted and plasticised in an extruding apparatus c which also acts as an air seal. A revoluble agitator a<2> is mounted in the hopper a which has a cover a<1> and the vessel b is connected to a suction pump s by a Pipe b<1> with a screen b<2>. The, hopper may be electrically vibrated, being connected to the vessel b by a flexible joint, and may also be subject to suction. The hopper may be heated by electrical E eating elements surrounding it and fixed and revoluble heating elements projecting into it.
