572,036. Exhaust - silencers. BURGESS-MANNING CO. May 6, 1944, No. 8631. Convention date, May 21; 1943. [Class 7 (ii)] [Also in Group II] A snubber type of silencer comprises a shell 10, having an inlet chamber 17, a snubber chamber 18, and an outlet chamber 19, an inlet conduit 21 and an opening 22 to the snubber chamber being in alignment. Oblique apertured conduits 26, mounted in the end walls 15, 16, of the chamber, are out of alignment with the conduit 21. The outlet chamber is provided with a gas outlet 36 having apertured walls except for the portion near the end wall 14 which is imperforate, and radial vanes 37 are arranged between the end of the conduit and the wall 16 to facilitate the passage of the gases. A slot 30 and a lip 31 may be provided for trapping solid particles. A modification has its axis vertical. Specification 534,568 is referred to.
