Abstract

442,186. Exhaust and like silencers. JUNKERS - FLUGZEUGWERK AKT.- GES., 40, Junkersstrasse, Dessau, Anhalt, Germany. Feb. 15, 1935, No. 4927. Convention date, March 5, 1934. [Class 7 (ii)] The exhaust or other pulsating gaseous currents are passed along a bent or curved path within an outer casing of constant crosssection by means of an assembly of vanes or other surfaces, the bent or curved path being such that the length of the smallest arc differs from that of the largest arc by a wave length of the primary frequency of the gaseous currents, or an integral multiple thereof. Fig. 2 shows one form with inlet pipe 2 and outlet 3 connected by a casing 1 so that the gases are deflected through 180‹, the inner path 4 and the outer path 5, 6 of the gaseous flow being dimensioned as described above. Guide vanes 7, 8 divide the gases into streams. Fig. 4 shows another form in which the gases entering at 12 are deflected through 360‹ by a casing 11 having an outlet 13 at the side of the inlet 12. Concentric partitions 14 are fitted in the casing. In another form, Fig. 6, the gases are guided by a helix 22 in a casing 21 of such size that the flow path along the inner wall of the casing differs from that along the centre of the helix by the amount described above.
