Abstract
570,611. Turning HERBERT, Ltd.. A., and TIPPLE. E. W. Dec. 11. 1943, No. 20773. [Class 83 (iii)] A bar feed for a lathe &c. comprises a guide tube 12 containing a pusher 13 actuated by, a chain 16 passing over an idle sprocket 17 and a driven sprocket in a casing 19 at the headstock end of the tube. The sprocket is driven through a worm or other reduction gear 21 from an electric motor 20, a friction clutch being incorporated in the drive to prevent damage when the bar stock is fed against its stop and comprising two annular friction surfaces pressed against opposite sides of a flange on the sprocket by an adjustable spring. The motor 20 is preferably reversible and may be controlled by two push-buttons 31 adjacent the headstock, or by a pedal for actuating the forward feed, whilst reversal is controlled by a switch adjacent the motor, or a pedal control may be provided in addition to the push-buttons.
