Abstract
569,901. Stencilling apparatus. HILLS, A. E. Nov. 8, 1943, No. 18514. [Class 100 (ii)] Patterns are printed on a web 1, Fig. 5, of fabric by colour-spraying nozzles 6 applying the colour through stencils 5 attached to the web, the web being traversed past the nozzles by an endless screen forming the front wall of a suction box 7, the suction causing the fabric to adhere to the screen and also drawing the colour through the web. The screen 8, Fig. 3, passes round rollers 9 driven by separate motors 15 through worm gearing 14 and the edges of the screen are beaded and guided by pulleys 28 on the rollers 9. The edges also pass between pairs of grooved rollers 20, Fig. 4, arranged at an angle and carried by brackets 22 secured to spring rods 31 to tension the screen laterally. Suction is applied to the box 7 by a fan arranged in the larger end of a conical tubular duct 36 connected to the box by a neck 39. The designs to be applied in colour may also be woven into the fabric in a neutral coloured thread as indicated at 4 in Fig. 1, so that after colouring the material resembles tapestry.
