Abstract
568,391. Viewing apparatus. BALL, J. G., and GORDON INSTRUMENT CO., Ltd. April 6, 1943, Nos. 5459/43 and 2947/44. [Class 97 (i)] An optical viewing apparatus comprises an inverted-dish shaped cowl having one or both ends 6 formed as a reflector of parabolic section, means for carrying a lamp at about the focus of the (or each) reflector, a light-trapped ventilating opening 8 formed between overlapping edges of the end 6 and top 7 of the cowl, and one or more magnifying lenses 12, 13 associated with the cowl. In the form shown in Fig. 1 the cowl is pivotally mounted on a pair of arms 19 carried by a spindle 21 pivotally supported in a head 22 on a stem 23 slidably and rotatably mounted in a base 17. The lens is slidably mounted in the cowl, and a baffle 16 is provided between it and the lamp. The form shown in Fig. 3 is intended for viewing translucent objects, and includes a translucent panel 26 in the cowl, which forms the base of the apparatus, and a lens 32 supported similarly to the cowl in Fig. 1.
