Abstract

567,855. Assembling force fits. CLANCEY, G. July 13, 1943, No. 11337. [Class 83 (iv)] A device for fitting and extracting bushes &c. has a body 1, adapted to fit on the workpiece 4, having a bore b in which slides a spindle 6 to which a draw-bar 8a, shaped to fit the bore of the bush, is secured, means being provided to move the spindle axially in the bore. The body 1 has feet 3 to engage the face of a cylinder block 4 or other workpiece and a bore b with a keyway 8 to receive the spindle 6. This has a key 7 to engage the keyway 8, a threaded part to engage a nut 10 or screwed collar and a screwed bore to receive a detachable draw-bar 8a. This has a part 8b with a diameter corresponding to the sleeve 2 to be drawn into the work and retaining means 9. After drawing in the sleeve, the same device may be used to press a valve seat 21, Fig. 6, into place. If the face of the work is not suitable to be engaged by the feet 3, the body 1 may be reversed as shown in Fig. 3, and this reverse end may have a conical face to engage a valve seat or a separate body 13 with such a face may be interposed. The body 13 may have a peg 17 to enter a corresponding recess 18 at either end of the body 1. The device can be used in the same way for drawing a sleeve, having a plane cylindrical exterior, out of its seat. The spindle may be moved by means other than a screw and nut, e.g. by a fluid-pressure piston and cylinder.
