Abstract

567,133. Valves. ROCKWOOD SPRINKLER CO. OF MASSACHUSETTS. July 16, 1943, No. 11596. Convention date, Sept. 12, 1942. [Classes 69 (iii) and 135] A rotary spherical valve comprises a spherical valve member with a passage therethrough engaging a ported seat of non-metallic resilient material having a ball engaging surface adapted to engage a substantial portion of the surface of the ball. The Figure shows the invention applied to a combination fire nozzle having alternative jet and spray nozzles 10, 12. The valve seat 42, preferably formed of synthetic rubber, is held in a recess in the nozzle by a screwed ring 46 engaging a flange 50 on the seat. The seat has a pair of passages elongated in cross - sectior leading to the nozzles. The ball 20 which has a transverse passage 22 adapted to connect the inlet 34 alternately to the ports 52 is held to its seat by a ring 62 of resilient material housed in a recess in the detachable inlet portion. The ball is formed with a short spindle fitting an actuating handle.
