Abstract

566,233. Cutting-machines for paper &c. SYMONS & CO., Ltd., H. D., and WADSWORTH, G. W. July 21, 1943, No. 11865. [Class 31 (ii)] A hand-operated cutting device for cutting sheet material, which is especially applicable for slitting the top or outer layer of a roll of sheet material at a position adjacent to where the layer is gummed to the roll is constructed of a thin blade 1 similar to a razor blade, clamped between the two parts 2, 3 of a handle so as to project below the lower surface of the handle, and a springy feeler or guide device 8 which is inserted under the layer of material to be cut and guides the sheet against the cutting- edge. A ramp 11 depressed or open along the middle is fitted to the feeler 8 and directs the sheet against the cutting-edge. The part 3 may be formed as one or two pieces, and is clamped by bolts to the part 2, and a carrier 9 for the feeler 8 is clamped in position between the parts 2, 3. When the part 3 is formed of two parts 3a, 3b, the knife blade can be changed by adjustment of the part 3a without interfering with the feeler 8.
