Abstract

565,074. Air &c. cleaners. STOKES, E. A., CRAWFORD, R. G. S., and VOKES, Ltd. April 20, 1943, No. 6328. [Class 8 (ii)] [Also in Group II] In an oil-bath cleaner the height of a lip below which air flows on to the oil is adjusted by the air flow. Air &c. entering a casing 1 through an inlet 2 from alternative sources and having been partly freed from dust by passage through a centrifugal separator comprising helically flared passages and a dust-collecting space 5; is led into a hollow piston having a bottom 15 pressed down by a spring or by gravity and lifted. by the flow of air, which passes under the piston wall 16 into contact with a bath of oil ; the rate of air flow determines the height of the piston wall lip above the oil level. Further dust is deposited in the bath and the air carrying oil escapes through a filter 14 formed of pleated wire gauze sheets with pleats of neighbouring sheets crossed. The apparatus is formed in sections held together by a nut 18 on an assembly rod 4.
