Abstract

Stable solutions containing sodium hypochlorite are obtained by adding calcium hypochlorite to a hot aqueous solution containing sodium carbonate (or bicarbonate), more than sufficient to convert all the calcium to calcium carbonate, and separating the latter from the solution. Sodium chloride may be added to assist precipitation of the calcium carbonate. Borax and magnesium carbonate may be present in the carbonate solution. A convenient antiseptic solution is prepared by the process comprising the addition of calcium hypochlorite to a solution containing sodium carbonate and bicarbonate, borax, magnesium carbonate, citric acid, calcium chloride, calcium phosphate.
