[Class 82 (i)] [Also in Group III] Chromium ores which contain an excess of iron are rendered suitable for use in the production of ferro-chromium by treating them with solid or gaseous reducing-agents to obtain a product wherein the iron in excess of the ratio Cr: Fe = 3 : 1 is reduced, and leaching with acid such as sulphuric acid to remove the reduced iron. The leaching liquor may be treated for the' recovery of any dissolved chromium by treatment with air or other oxidizing agent whereby iron is precipitated, the chromium being recovered from the solution in any suitable way.
