Abstract

562,547. Washing machines. HOLMES, W., and FLETCHER, T. Sept. 14, 1942, No. 12899. [Class 138 (ii)] A machine for washing clothes and the like by circulating water has a reticulated baffle plate 13 near the bottom of the tub and a pump, preferably centrifugal, arranged to draw water from beyond the periphery of the baffle and through the holes in it and discharge it radially from the centre through orifices 11 across the face of the baflle, the pump being central near the base of the casing and having a substantially flat top 10. Thus an electric motor 3 drives through a clutch 5, controlled by a lever 6, a vertical shaft 9 and an impeller 4 comprising spiral arms 7 to force water through radial holes 11 in the periphery of the casing 10, a ridge 12 on which is supported the baffle plate 13. For emptying the tube a cover plate 16, Fig. 5, is applied over the fiat top casing 10 and around the orifices 11, connected to a hose 15.
