Abstract
562,043. Electrostatic precipitation apparatus. WHESSOE FOUNDRY & ENGINEERING CO., Ltd., FRANCOMBE, K. W., PUTTICK, A., and PUTNAM, W. E. Dec. 16, 1942, No. 17886. [Class 39 (i)] In an electrical dust-precipitator for cleaning gases such as producer gas, the insulators H, M for supporting the discharge electrode system E are disposed outside the main gas stream, and are surrounded by baffles K, L, P, Q to prevent direct access of the gas to them. Preferably, the insulators are separately heated and are provided with an electric heating coil in a hollow cavity therein. The collecting electrode system comprises a nest of tubes C, hexagonal in section, carried by a plate T which rests, with interposed packing, on an internal flange Y on the outer casing B, with the gas inlet and outlet openings A, D on opposite sides of the plate. The discharge electrodes E are held at either end on spring hooks e supported on plates F, G which form part of the baffle system. The plate F is supported by the insulator H which is supported by the cover 12 of the casing and carries the lead-in rod 5 with a terminal d to which the high-tension cable a is attached. The plate G is attached to the lower end of the collecting electrode system C by brackets O. Rods X connect the cover 12 to the plate T, so that the complete discharge and collecting electrode system can be lifted out of the casing as a unit. The leads 9 to the heating coils for the insulators are mounted on the cover 12. The insulators are constructed as described in Specification 562,044, [Group XXXVI].
