Abstract

561,080. Feeding sheets; conveyers. STEVENS, A. H. (Miller Printing Machinery Co.). June 27, 1941, No. 12027/42. Divided out of 561,072. [Class 100 (i)] [Also in Group XXX] A conveyer for flat articles such as sheets is formed as a belt conveyer, and pneumatic means are provided which act on a predetermined portion of the article to hold the same to the belt. As applied to the feeding of sheets from a pile to a printing machine, the conveyer belt 225 is formed with a central line of perforations and is passed over guiding and driving pulleys 226, 227 which give a variable speed to the belt. The belt passes over a feed board 220 formed with a series of vacuum ports 221, and a rotary valve driven in synchronism with the sheet separating mechanism causes a vacuum to be applied progressively to the ports 221 and as the perforations in the belt 225 register with the ports 221, the sheets are held pneumatically to the belt and are finally taken by the grippers of the printing machine. The mechanism and method of operation thereof is the same as that described in connection with Specification 561,072 and in connection with Specification 561,079.
