Abstract
560,464. Targets. ZAJACZKOWSKI, W., and ROSE BROS. (GAINSBOROUGH), Ltd. Sept. 26, 1942, No. 13561. [Class 20 (i)] A target apparatus for practice with anti-aircraft gunnery and against tanks and the like comprise a carriage 10 movable along a track 11 transversely to the line of fire, a target support 18 carried by the carriage and adapted to move transversely to the direction of the carriage, and driving means 31 to move the carriage and the target support simultaneously so as to reproduce the movements of aircraft, tanks &c. controlled from a reduced model driven simultaneously which reproduces the movements of the target. The carriage is provided with wheels 14 to contact the upper and under sides of the track and a target carrier 19 is adapted to be moved on the support 18 in a direction at right angles to the track and also to the' line of fire. The carriage is reciprocated by means of a belt 26 the two ends of which are attached to its opposite ends and the belt is carried over guide pulleys 28 from a drum 29 on a shaft 72. A drum 39 on an aligned shaft 71 drives, through a belt 34, the target carrier and a clutch 76 is interposed between the ends of the aligned shafts in order that the shafts may be driven separately or simultaneously. The control board 51 is installed near the driving gear which reproduces the movements of the targetcarrier and the target carriage to a reduced scale, the respective parts of the control being driven through belt gearing 62, 63 from a controlling pulley and drum 59, 61 respectively, free on the driving shaft but clutched thereto by notches engaging pins 78 through the shaft, springs 82 maintaining such engagement. Curves of flight 52 are indicated on the control board. A gun turret 91 with rifle 92 is used for practice and a reflected ring sight (not shown) is used for an apparent speed of 50 miles per hour; a compressed air device designed to project a bullet may replace the rifle.
