Abstract

560,329. Compressor valves. SANDERS, A. F. Sept. 26, 1942, No. 13555. [Class 8 (i)] The poppet discharge valve 14 of a compressor is moved in the closing direction by a cam 20 acting on the valve stem through a plunger 17 and a body of liquid 18. When the cam pressure is released, the plunger is raised by a spring 19, and leak ports 23 allow reflux of liquid, the valve being held closed by the pressure of air in the delivery passage 15 until the pressure rises sufficiently in the cylinder 11. Ports 29 controlled by the plunger 67 control communication between the reservoir 30 and the liquid space 18. The liquid may be fuel oil when the compressor is used to supercharge, a compression ignition motor.
