Abstract
559,754. Cellulose derivative filaments, films, coatings &c. DREYFUS, H. Aug. 28, 1942, No. 12147. [Class 2 (ii)] An alkaline solution of a cellulose ether is shaped into the form of a filament, film, or other article, or is applied as a coating or impregnation to a fabric or other article, and is coagulated by treatment with an aqueous solution containing an organic acid and a salt of an organic acid. The cellulose ether may be a methyl, ethyl, hydroxy ethyl, carboxy ethyl, or other alkyl, hydroxy alkyl or carboxy alkyl cellulose ether. It may be of the type which is directly soluble in alkali or of the type which is soluble only at a low temperature, e.g. -5 or -10‹C. The coagulating liquid may contain acetic acid and sodium acetate in low or high concentration. Filaments may be obtained by extrusion, and foils or films may be obtained by casting. A coagulated foil or film while still on a support may be washed and then plasticized by treatment with a dilute solution of glycerine or other softening agent. It may then be dried and stripped from the support.
