Abstract

559,215. Chucks. WEBSTER, J., and BRIDGE, J. F. July 31, 1942, No. 10770. [Class 83 (iii)] Cam-closing chucks have an annular body 10 recessed for bolting to a lathe face plate and having circumferentially spaced cam surfaces 13 for actuating roller jaws 14 with spindles 18 supported in radial slots in carrier rings 15, 16 located in counterbores in the body and held rigidly together by spacing bolts 17 that also attach an actuator plate 21 with holes 22 for a tommy bar. A stop screw 25 engages a segmental slot 26 on the actuator to limit the movement. Light springs 20 maintain contact between the rollers and cam surfaces. An adjustable spring-loaded brake pin 23 engages the periphery of the ring 15 and a screw 27 may control a locking pin 28.
