Abstract

558,124. Cooling cylinders. ABBEY, A. (Kegin, A. B.). June 17, 1942, No. 8334. Drawings to Specification. [Class 7 (ii)] [Also in Groups XIII, XVIII and XXII] Fins are jointed to an engine cylinder by resin, particularly artificial resin. Metal powder may be added to the resin to increase its heat conductivity. The surfaces of the tubes are first roughened as by pickling, or oxidised to facilitate the adherence of the resin, and the tubes are then dipped in the resin in which aluminium powder is suspended. The tubes are further heated in an oven and expanded by a mandrel against the inner flanges of the fins during heating. The resin forms corrosionresisting coatings on the inner and outer surfaces of the tubes.
