Abstract

An Al or Al alloy casting is coated at least in part by applying the coating material to the appropriate part of a heated die and then forming the coating therein, whereby the coating material is transferred to the casting. The coating material is preferably sprayed on to the die and as applied to the flash boiler of a steam iron comprises a water suspension of mica flakes and alumina.
