Abstract
557,417. Clips. WILSON, E. G. May 7, 1942, No. 6141. [Class 44] A clip device for use in stretching skins &c. comprises a wooden body a provided with a finger-hole b and having its upper surface formed to provide an anvil position a' and recess a<2>. The rear end has a finger-recess c and the lower surface, which is preferably flat, has a screw d, a metal plate with a projecting tongue, or other projecting means for selective engagement with an aperture or mesh in the usual frame or support to hold the skin taut. A single-piece metal pressing, formed to provide side arms f<1> and cross-bar the edge f<2> of which grips the skin against the part a', is pivoted to the body on a bolt or spindle e and biased to gripping position by a wire spring mounted on the bolt with the end of one arm g' anchored in the body a and the other arm g<2> engaged behind an integral tongue f<4> formed on the side arm f<1> The edge f<2> may be toothed and an additional plate (or plates) may be secured to the crossbar disposed so that its edge co-operates with the edge f<2> in gripping the skin h. The gripping edge of this plate may have teeth out of register with those on the edge f<2>. The upper edge f<3> of the cross-bar may be lipped to give rigidity.'
