Abstract
557,034. Washing dishes &c. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Jan. 8, 1943, No. 406. Convention date, Jan. 15, 1942. [Class 138 (i)] In a dish-washing machine of the kind in which articles placed on trays 18 in a vat 10 are subjected to a cleaning cycle in which cleansing and rinsing liquids are projected on to the articles by an impeller 38 and are drained to a pipe 26 under control of a valve 29 operated by an electromagnet 30, the articles are finally dried at a comparatively low temperature by drawing in air from the exterior of the apparatus by means. of blades 54 projecting from the hub portion 43 of the impeller. The propeller is driven by a motor 39 having a pin-and-slot connection with a sleeve 42 secured to the hub 43 and connected by a bolt 47 to the motor shaft 46. The impeller is provided with a pair of blades 51 having fluid-engaging faces 53a curving downwardly and forwardly from the upper edge to the lower edge in the direction of rotation of the impeller. The inner and outer surfaces 53a, 53b are substantially parallel except for a thickened portion 52, Fig. 4, not shown. Apertures 55 in the hub permit the circulation of air which is drawn in through a passageway 49 from the exterior of the vat as indicated by the arrows B, Fig. 1, and passes into the vat in streams indicated by arrows C, D. The motor 39 is protected by an anti-splash plate 48. The drying air is heated by an electrical heater of the kind described in Specification 144,767, [Class 38 (i)], comprising a helical resistance conductor 61 mounted within a sheath 62 containing an insulating material such as magnesium oxide. The drying air passes away via a lower opening 57 and a staggered opening 58 which may be covered by ventilating louvres 59. As the air is discharged upwardly and has to return downwardly complete air circulation is obtained.
