Abstract

553,152. Reproducing drawings. GENERAL MOTORS CORPORATION. June 26, 1942, No. 8823. Convention date, Aug. 8, 1941. Drawings to Specification. [Class 98 (ii)] [Also in Group XL] Drawings e.g. for engineering purposes are made with non-phosphorescent lines on a rigid phosphorescent surface, and are accurately reproduced by causing the surface to phosphoresce by placing in contact with it after activation has ceased, a light-sensitive layer coated as on metal or glass. The drawing may be made in ink or pencil on, or scribed in a phosphorescent layer preferably of white or light colour coated on a rigid support as of metal (e.g. aluminium or steel), plywood, fibre board or plastic. The phosphorescent material may be excited by X-rays or ultra-violet rays. Various phosphorescent sulphides, silicates and tungstates are specified; they are finely ground and mixed with a binder to form a lacquer. Vacuum pressure means may be used to ensure contact between the drawing and the light-sensitive layer during printing. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 includes also the use of the fluorescent property of materials ; and in this connection reference is made therein to organic luminescent materials such as fluorescein and anthracene which are coated on a finely-divided pigment mixed with a binder. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
