Abstract
552,866. Light-polarizing images. INTERNATIONAL POLAROID CORPORATION. May 7, 1942, No. 6187. Convention date, March 27, 1941. [Classes 97 (i) and 98 (ii)] Light-polarizing images are produced on opposite sides of a polyvinyl alcohol or other plastic sheet having oriented molecules, by the imbibition of a dichroic dye from an aqueous solution held by gelatin or like reliefs 22, 24, on plastic sheets 20, 25 hinged together along one edge; the images may form a stereoscopic pair. The reliefs 22, 24 face each other and may be spaced so that they may lie smoothly on the image-receiving sheet, the whole assembly being passed between rollers during imbibition. The hinge may be formed by strips 26, 28 of adhesive tape, and'the reliefs may be produced by photographic methods. The image-receiving sheet may have the molecules on one side oriented perpendicularly to those on the other side. If the images form a stereoscopic pair they may be in such register that they appear in relief when viewed as described in Specification 528;796.
