Abstract

552,280. Honing-machines. BURGESS, A. F. (Barnes Drill Co.). June 30, 1942, No. 8992. [Class 60] In a honing-machine having a reciprocating, expanding tool, the tool-adjusting means, which reciprocates therewith, engages a control surface that can be adjusted transversely to the path of reciprocation during the operation of the machine. The tool T is operated by a hollow shaft 17 from a housing 14 carried by a head 13 reciprocated in guides on the main bed 10 by a cable 21. The tool is expanded by a rod passing through the shaft 17 and operated by a lever 44 connected, by an adjustable link 45, with an arm 48 carrying a roller 51 engaging the control surface 33. The latter is formed on a member 32 supported by links 34 from the bed and connected, adjustably, to the piston '55 of a pressure fluid system by which the control member 33 can be moved. In a modification, the links 34 are pivoted to a member pivotally mounted on the bed, whereby the surface 33 may be inclined for honing conical surfaces.
