Abstract

Convention date, April 2 [Class 120 (iii)] A composite yarn is obtained by associating a continuous staple fibre roving 4 containing fibres of an organic derivative of cellulose with a fine coherent yarn 11 I carrying a material which is a solvent or softening agent for the organic derivative of cellulose but not for the substance of the yarn 11. By twisting the roving 4 with the yarn 11 substantially all of the staple fibres may be caused to contact with the solvent-carrying yarn and to be anchored firmly to the yarn. The fine yarn 11 may be of cotton, regenerated cellulose, silk, wool, stretched or saponfied organic derivatives of cellulose, or organic ethers or esters of cellulose, and the solvent or softening agent may be acetone, ethyl alcohol, chloroform, ethylene dichloride or methyl alcohol. The organic derivative of cellulose staple fibres may be organic esters or organic ethers of cellulose. The roving and yarn 11 may be twisted together in a false twister head 6 or in a balloon guide above a ring spindle. The solvent may be applied to the yarn 11 by a wick 12 in its passage to the twisting device.
