551,797. Coated fabrics. BRITISH CELANESE, Ltd. Sept. 8, 1941, No. 11446. Convention date, Sept. 12. 1940. [Class 140] Artificial letter consisting of woven &c. fabric coated with cellulose &c. thermoplastic material with or without modifying agents such as plasticizers, dyes, pigments, lakes, filling, materials, resins and oils is improved in feel by dusting the coating when fully set with a finely powdered substance such as talc, soapstone, ground mica, bentonite, lithopone and zinc stearate, and applying heat and pressure to the surface carrying the powder. In an example a cotton flannel fabric is coated with a mixture made up of cellulose acetate 100 parts by weight, mixed o- and p-ethyl toluene sulfonamide 72 parts, methyl phthalyl ethyl glycollate 25 parts, dimethyl ether of ethylene glycol phthalate 3 parts, oxidized castor oil formal 10 parts, leather flock 10 parts, calcium sulphite 10 parts, carbon or bone black 3 parts ; after rolling with heat and cooling the coated surface is dusted with soapstone powder and finally rolled under heat and embossed.
