Abstract

551,111. Milk &c. cartons. RAMSEY, A. R. J. (Oswego Falls Corporation). June 30, 1942, No. 9000. [Class 66] The rim of a milk &c. container of fibrous material is wholly or in part enclosed by a doubled strip of sheet material the inner and outer faces of which are secured respectively to the rim and to the channelled edges 21, 22 of the lid, the container being opened by tearing away the bight portion 29 of the doubled strip with the aid of the tearing cord 40 if provided, the part of the strip remaining attached to the rim affording a clean pouring edge. The strip may be coated with thermoplastic material 35 enabling attachment to the container to be effected by heat-sealing. In the construction shown the strip is applied along two sides of a square section container the lid of which is scored diagonally at 26 to enable part of it to be raised for pouring.
