Abstract

550,514. Pipe stoppers. BARRINGTON, R, R. Oct. 10, 1941, No. 13085. [Class 99 (ii)] [Also in Group XVII] A closure device for jars applicable to stopping the end of a pipe comprises a number of elongated strips pivoted intermediate the length of their inwardly directed legs 3 to an endless frame 2, the legs 3a of the strips extending downwards outside the frame and terminating in claws 5 for engaging a flange 7, and the inward extremities 3b of the legs 3 inside the frame pressing jointly on a small area of the cover 6 located centrally underneath the frame. As shown the frame 2 is substantially triangular in shape with truncated corners at each of which one of the strips is pivoted, and one of the strips may have a lever 8 pivoted to its downwardly directed end for engaging under the flange 7 and assisting the locking of the closure device in position. In the case of a pipe having no flange a wire or band may be bound tightly around the pipe near the end to be covered for engagement by the claws and lever.
